About

Write yourself into history and become one of the greats with the Oxford Flash Fiction Prize.

Here in one of the oldest towns, where the history of the English language can be traced back to its ancient streets, we want to celebrate one of the newest forms in literature – flash fiction – with a biannual competition.

Oxford has inspired some of the greatest creative writers and poets in the world, and we’re here to expand its legacy into flash fiction. Join the likes of PD James, JRR Tolkien, C.S.Lewis and Vera Brittain, and be inspired to look beyond the walls, the cloisters and abbeys, and above the city of dreaming spires. Delight us, surprise us, scare us. Take that leap of faith and send us your stories.

Competitions such as ours, provide writers with more than just prize-money. They open doors for those who are working on their craft. We believe in holding open the big, heavy doors of Oxford, which is why we offer free entry to writers on a low/no-income and aim to expand our offering in the future to ensure a diverse range of stories and talent. For more information, click here.

We are a Community Interest Company (CIC). All profits will go back into ensuring bigger prizes and more opportunities for supporting writers from all backgrounds. If you’re interested in supporting us, and providing more opportunities to ensure that everybody can share their stories, please get in touch with us: contact@oxfordflashfictionprize.com.
